Our Pre-GCSE course is a new addition for 2026, aimed at heritage Chinese students in Years 5–7 who have a basic grounding in reading and writing Chinese. The goal is to lay the groundwork for future GCSE Chinese success, using whole-book reading to reinforce knowledge, boost vocabulary, and enhance practical communication skills. Curriculum: Using the Jinbu and AQA GCSE series as core texts, the class covers all four key skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—structured around GCSE topics, vocabulary, and grammar. We will also be reading the global classic Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window in every class. This marks our first time using a complete book to drive classroom discussions, inspire creative writing, and lead hands-on projects like crafting a Tomoe Gakuen textbook. Our aim is to foster a genuine love for reading and build lifelong reading habits. Graduates of this course will enter the two-year GCSE programme with a strong competitive advantage. Teacher Yang Zonghui has been dedicated to teaching Chinese to overseas Chinese children for a long time. As an online Chinese teacher on a well-known platform in China, she has rich experience in teaching heritage language to Chinese children. Her teaching style is lively and interesting, yielding significant results in Chinese learning and is well-loved by students.
